The 5th Annual Police & Services Tag Football Tournament was a great day with great weather & 15 teams participating. I apologise for the late start to the tournament but we still had teams arriving after 9am, hence why we started the games at 9.30am.
Thanks to Tasha and the Mangere East Hawks Rugby League Club for allowing us to use their grounds for our tag football tournament.
We had some technical difficulties with their sound system which caused a problem with communicating to all the teams with updates regarding games, etc & had to make do with what we had. Our NZPTFI committee are looking at purchasing our own equipment (Loud Haler, mic/speaker, horn, tents, balls, tags, cones, etc) for the next tournament so that we don't have to depend on anyone and are prepared to remedy any issues that may occur in future.
I'd like to thank Claude from the New Zealand Tag Football Incorporated who helped with organising the admin & referees. He had to sort out a points dispute in the Open Men's Grade between the Otahuhu Police ENFORCERS and the Navy TITANS but sorted it out by letting them play each other with the winner going into the finals.
I would also like to thank all our referees who did a great job controlling all the games, especially the finals. It's got to be one of the hardest jobs in sport because you can't please both sides as there can only be one winner and you make the final call from what you see (almost like a police officers job.)
This tournament has been supported by Police Sport (Council of Sport) since the beginning so I would like to acknowledge Police Sport and all the representatives (Sgt John NELSON, Snr Sgt Stefan MCINTYRE, Rhonda LEE & co) for all the work they do behind the scenes to pay for player fees and funding our Police & Services Tag Football Tournament. Without their support this tournament would not be a success. On behalf of all our Police Sport members we thank you & appreciate what you do for us all.
We will be reimbursing all the teams with some money back due to cost savings. I will be in touch after our NZPTFI committee meeting and we will be able to give everyone a break down on the costs for the tournament.

This was the first year for the Masters Grade. All of the teams could have easily played in the Open Men's grade as the skill level and pace was at a high level. The final score: Auckland FIVE-0's 7pts VS Westside TOEAINA'S 1pt.

OPEN MIXED GRADE:
The Mixed Grade Final was a very close & high scoring game with both teams getting into double digits. Genesis G-SQUAD defeated Glenfield Academy in the grand final as they defended their title by winning their 3rd consecutive Grand Final. Final score: Genesis G-SQUAD 14pts VS Glenfield Academy 10pts.

This had to be the toughest Open Men's Grand Finals I have ever seen since it started 5 years ago and was a very close game.
The rivalry between Auckland District and Counties Manukau was stronger than ever as these two teams have met in the Grand Final the previous two years.
Final score: Auckland District FIVE-0's 4pts VS Otahuhu ENFORCERS 3pts.
