Chiefs Cup 2025 (Waikato Police Vs Bay of Plenty Police in Rugby)

CHIEFS CUP 2025 played on the 28th September 2025

The Bay of Plenty Rugby Union kindly hosted both Bay of Plenty Police and Waikato Police Rugby for the Chief’s Cup 2025 this past Sunday.

It was a warm Sunday afternoon with barely a breeze in sight, making conditions perfect for running rugby.

Bay of Plenty opened the scoring with an early try within the first two minutes through hooker Anton MILNES.

The blue and gold men ran in a further three tries through MILNES and First Five Maihi BIDIOS before a well earnt five pointer was scored in the corner by Waikato midfielder Vilati NARBEY-NIMETI to end the half.

A brief respite at half time refuelled the tank allowing the Waikato men to win the second half.

Two tries for Waikato scored by JJ HAVEA and Charles GEMMELL narrowed the score however it wasn’t enough.

As the full time hooter sounded, Bay of Plenty secured the win 24 points to 15. Bay of Plenty retain the Chiefs Cup for 2025.

A massive shout out to all that were involved in organising the day, especially the Bay of Plenty Rugby union, alongside New Zealand Rugby for making the match available for Police, and the day to run smoothly.
