Cross Country Report
Wednesday 27 August dawned warm, overcast and breezy at Moke Lake for the Police Sport Cross Country champs.
An intrepid field of 14 runners, including 3 from FENZ, to take on the 6km loop of the lake. With the weather playing ball in the days prior, the track was mostly dry meaning fast times on the undulating course.
Dunedin’s Eddie Smith led in Corey Lewis (also of Dunedin) in times of 23.55 and 24.18 respectively, closely followed by the first woman, Naomi McGarva from Avondale in 24.52. Both Corey and Naomi were using this as a last minute speed session before the Naesby ultra on the weekend, best of luck to you both!
4 athletes decided they wanted to make the most of their time on course and took a detour, forgetting the briefing that if they went past the arrow they have gone too far…
Finishing with the same number of runners that started, a cool down in the lake and some locally sourced Bambi meant a successful event. Special mention to the Comissioner for taking the time to join the run and also Macey Johansen who literally flew in solely for the run before flying home to Auckland again (good luck for the Sydney marathon this weekend).
Finally thanks to iFly Queenstown for their support of the winter games and prizes for the run and big thanks to Chris Lucy for all his work around the games in their entirety and the bbq!
